House of memories

        The story of this house has a lot to do with its background and the owner’s memories.  The owner is a young businessperson who plans to settle down his family on this land plot where it used to be his parents’ house.  The plot is located in a 35-year-old village called “Chicha Country Club”, which the neo classical architecture style has been deployed to all houses.  According to the plan, his parents’ house has to be entirely leveled, but the big tree in front must be kept as a capsule of his childhood memories.   The owner’s functional requirements are quite clear, yet diverse, depending on each family member’s activity.  The criteria from the Feng Shui master are strict as usual.  However, the architectural challenge is much about the look, or mood, of the house.  The owner wants the house to look clean and simple, yet it must reminisce the neo classical architectural style in order to harmonize the house to the tone of the entire village.

        With the brief we receive from the owner, we believe that this project is a good opportunity for us to make serious studies on Palladian school and in our studies, has to speak of 3 bold organizations.  neo classical architectural language.  The house, as a result

One is that the plan has to be the room-type organization, as opposed to the space-type organization.  It means that the rooms in the house have to line up in hierarchical order based on the feeling of grandness – the grandest room must be first and the least grand one must go last.  The circulation then performs like the visual sequencing tool for such a hierarchical order as well as arranges the functional relationship of the house.  Also, the interior of each room has to imply the symmetrical feeling.  

           Another one is that the house has to celebrate the repetitive composition both on planning organization and the rhythm appeared on main elevations; for example, the series of columns differentiating programs from circulations, the feeling of the colonnade, the rhythm of doors and windows.  

           And the last one is the expression of elevation.  It must speak of the concept of tripartite – the base, the body, and the top.  By that we have to define material assignment in order to clearly differentiate each part, together with employing steel work to soften the missive perception of the house. 


            The house comprises three levels and a roof terrace: The first level is a low ceiling floor.  It does not have much natural light due to the conditions of the parking as well as the pool service facility.  It appears very much like a basement look. Therefore, it is suitable for all recreation programs and service facilities, such as the car park spaces, reception court with the existing tree, gardens, the pool service room, and the maid area.  

         The second level is intentionally assigned to be the main floor, where guests can simply look for the main entry.  It is a high ceiling floor, half sunken from the floor.  This particular planning composition is conceptually meant to create a classic atmosphere and another strong axis linking the central fountain in the inner court to the dining table and to the swimming pool terrace.  Also, it is functionally designed to activate the ventilation to move across many rooms in the house.participating the height of the existing tree in front of the house, and bringing the sense of grand living.  On this floor, there are rooms for public activities.  What is more is that there is an inner court with a double volume void located on the south side of the house.   And on the other end, on the north side, there is a swimming pool, which is

          The third level is a proper ceiling height.  Even though the ceiling is as high as that on the second level, the number of windows tends to allow natural light to get into the rooms as much as possible.  This floor is dedicated for the most private activities for the owner such as showcases for significant collections, bedrooms, the spiritual room for practicing meditation and some necessary supporting facilities.  The plan of this floor tries to be as flexible as possible in order for any changes in the future.
